For motorists with a disability or with loved ones needing added support for their transportation, the government-backed Motability Scheme is a fantastic means to help retain independence. By enabling eligible recipients of selected mobility allowances to exchange their benefit to pay for the lease on a brand-new vehicle, the scheme provides access to the very best vehicles in an affordable manner.

For all Motability vehicles, you can take advantage of full vehicle insurance from RSA Motability, servicing and maintenance for your vehicle, full breakdown assistance, a range of adaptations where necessary, and even the option to name up to two drivers for your car. WIth the freedom to change your vehicle at the end of the leasing period, there is great flexibility in taking advantage of the Motability Scheme.

So, who can apply for the scheme? If you’re in receipt of one of the following allowances and have at least 12 months’ benefit remaining, you may be eligible to apply:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

Parents of children under the age of 16 can also apply on their behalf, as long as the vehicle is being used for the child’s benefit.
